Designed to maximize fiber density and duct space utilization

Prysmian's FlexRibbon® Technology is not just about high fiber density, it's also designed with user-friendliness in mind. The product line offers fiber counts as high as 6,912 in a super-compact design, making it easy to handle and install. We've also added features such as microduct and flame-rated designs to further enhance its usability. With our commitment to innovation, we're constantly introducing new designs. Conventional flat ribbons are made by encasing 12 optical fibers within a rigid structure. This design allows for mass-fusion splicing but comes with certain limitations. In contrast, FlexRibbon® Technology employs intermittent bonds between the fibers, resulting in a more flexible unit that can still be mass-fusion spliced. This innovation addresses the shortcomings of the earlier technology.

FlexRibbon Advantages and Products

One of the early focuses for FlexRibbon® technology was to increase the fiber count for common duct sizes. Prysmian Group now offers fiber counts ranging from 1728 to 6912, which are optimized for 1-1/4”, 1-1/2”, or 2” ducts. Some of these options come with 250-micron fiber, while others have smaller 200-micron fiber. For more details, you can refer to our product datasheets.

Microduct cables are an efficient choice for cable deployment, but many customers prefer ribbon cables due to their ease of splicing. While traditional (flat) ribbons are incompatible with microducts, our innovative FlexRibbon technology is. Explore our product datasheets for more details.
