Transmission Conductors for Overhead Power Lines
Inside Overhead Transmission
AAC—All-Aluminum Conductor
Toggle DetailsAAC are an efficient choice for overhead line installations, particularly when design requirements do not demand the higher strength or temperature ratings provided by ACSR, ACSS, or other types of conductors. Their lighter weight results in lower costs per unit length and facilitates easier handling during installation, thereby increasing productivity. Additionally, the simplicity of their fittings further improves their efficiency. With their uniform construction, all-aluminum conductors are also naturally resistant to corrosion, contributing to their overall effectiveness.
AAAC—Aluminum Alloy Conductor
Toggle DetailsAAAC are a reliable solution for overhead distribution and transmission lines, especially in coastal areas where corrosion can be an issue for the steel components in ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) constructions. By using AAAC conductors instead of single-layer ACSR conductors (ranging from #6 to #4/0 AWG), we can significantly reduce power losses in these lines. Additionally, the absence of a steel core in AAAC conductors eliminates the inductive effects associated with ACSR, ensuring reliable and efficient performance.
ACSR—Aluminum Conductor Steel-Reinforced
Toggle DetailsACSR is widely used for overhead distribution and transmission lines. ACSR conductors are known for their cost-effectiveness, reliability, and favorable strength-to-weight ratio, making them a dependable choice. They combine the lightweight and good conductivity of aluminum with the high tensile strength and durability of steel. Their design allows for higher tension, reduced sag, and, most notably, longer span lengths compared to most other types of overhead conductors.
ACSS—Aluminum Conductor Steel-Supported
Toggle DetailsACSS is an effective solution for overhead transmission lines, addressing various challenges. It is particularly beneficial in reconductoring applications that require increased current levels while maintaining existing tensions and clearances. Additionally, ACSS is advantageous for new line applications, as it allows for the optimization of structures due to reduced sag. This technology is also suitable for new lines that need to handle high emergency loadings and for lines affected by aeolian vibration issues.
T-2®—Motion Resistance Twisted Pair Conductor
Toggle DetailsT-2® twisted pair conductors are designed for use in overhead distribution and transmission lines that are susceptible to damage from wind-induced motion. They are available in two designs: all-aluminum (AAC/T-2) and aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR/T-2). These options effectively eliminate galloping, reduce aeolian vibration, and control oscillation between conductors.
TW—Trapezoidal-Wire Conductor
Toggle DetailsTW conductors, featuring trapezoidal aluminum strands, are designed to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability. The unique shape of these strands creates a smooth outer surface and enables a more compact alignment. This allows for the construction of a conductor that either maintains the same cross-sectional area of aluminum while reducing the overall diameter or retains the same overall diameter while increasing the aluminum cross-sectional area. This efficiency is further demonstrated by the reduced overall diameter of the conductor, which decreases the ice and wind loading on it. By keeping the same diameter and increasing the aluminum content, there is less power loss during day-to-day operations, resulting in a higher overall ampacity rating for the conductor and enhanced reliability for your electrical infrastructure.
ACCC®/TW—Trapezoidal Aluminum Conductor Composite Core
Toggle DetailsACCC®/TW conductors are specifically designed for overhead power distribution and transmission lines, offering a unique advantage. Their ability to reduce thermal sag without the need for structural modifications distinguishes them in reconductoring applications, generating significant interest due to their innovative design.
The ACCC® Conductor is an internationally patented and trademark-registered product of CTC Global Corporation and is recognized worldwide as a reliable solution. With Prysmian as a qualified and licensed manufacturer, you can trust in the quality and dependability of ACCC® conductors.
ACSR/SD—Self-Damping Aluminum Conductor Steel-Reinforced
Toggle DetailsACSR/SD conductors are used for overhead transmission lines to control aeolian vibration. These conductors consist of a steel core surrounded by two layers of trapezoidal-shaped aluminum wires. The design includes a space between the core and the aluminum layers, which provides self-damping characteristics and eliminates the need for additional vibration dampers.
AWAC – Aluminum Conductor Aluminum Clad Steel-Reinforced
Toggle DetailsAWAC conductors fulfill various roles, such as guy wires, shield wires, static wires, overhead ground wires, messengers, and span wires. The aluminum-clad steel wires offer improved corrosion resistance and superior conductivity compared to standard galvanized steel wires.
ACAR—Aluminum Conductor Aluminum Alloy-Reinforced
Toggle DetailsACAR conductors are specifically designed for overhead distribution and transmission lines. These conductors are made entirely of aluminum but offer greater strength and longer spans compared to AAC conductors. ACAR cables provide a high current-carrying capacity and enhanced strength while being lighter than other types of conductors.
