As the premier leader in high-voltage land cable technology, Prysmian plays a crucial role in shaping efficient and reliable power grids across the globe. Experience the cutting-edge innovations that empower our energy future.

Prysmian’s facility in Abbeville, SC, is equipped with a vertical continuous vulcanization line dedicated to the production of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cables. This line was added in 2009 as part of a significant $46 million investment in the facility, featuring state-of-the-art technology for EHV production. This investment highlights our commitment to technological advancement and increases our production capacity, allowing us to offer world-class products made in the U.S.A. Since starting production, the vertical continuous vulcanization line has supplied power cables to major utilities and industrial customers worldwide, supporting over 300 projects. In total, this amounts to approximately 6 million feet of high-voltage cable, which is equivalent to the distance between New York City and Tampa, FL.

Prysmian has a dedicated team of engineering and operations professionals based in North America, focused on providing comprehensive high-voltage underground project services. Our offerings range from cable and accessory installation to onsite testing, asset monitoring, and ongoing support. Our team has extensive experience managing some of the most complex projects ever completed in North America.

By utilizing a locally based project team, we maintain full control over all aspects of our projects, performing 100% of critical tasks—from preliminary engineering to final commissioning and testing. This integrated approach ensures that we execute projects to the highest standards and with maximum efficiency, giving our clients confidence in the quality of their undertakings.

As the world’s largest manufacturer of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage (HV/EHV) cables, Prysmian is synonymous with quality and reliability. We are also one of the largest cable installation contractors in North America, capable of managing multiple large-scale projects nationwide.

Our dedicated team of installers specializes in HV/EHV cable installation, bringing unparalleled experience and expertise to the most challenging projects. The absence of third-party contractors ensures that our project schedules remain uninterrupted by external coordination and planning issues.

We offer experienced HV/EHV installers, engineers, technicians, and project managers, as well as a range of installation and site management services, including splicing and termination services.

Prysmian provides onsite commissioning testing as well as asset condition assessment services, which include:

  • Onsite AC HiPot commissioning testing in accordance with IEC 60840 and IEC 62067.
  • Testing of cables up to 500 kV at a level of 1.7U0 using an extension set.
  • Terminal partial discharge testing for short, non-jointed cable systems.
  • Daisy-chained partial discharge (PD) testing solutions for jointed cable systems.
  • Testing of sheath bonding systems.
  • Visual inspection of the cable system
  • Inspections of maintenance holes
  • Investigation of cable system faults and failures
  • Reduction of in-service faults through periodic or permanent online Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring using PRY-CAM PD technology
  • Permanent installation of non-invasive external PD sensors (differential field probes)
  • If Partial Discharge is detected in a high-voltage joint, the exact location of the PD source within the joint can be determined through scanning
