TransPowr® ACSR/SD Bare Overhead Conductor (Canada)
ACSR/SD conductors are constructed from two layers of 1350 H19 trapezoidal aluminum wires, concentrically stranded around a steel core of round-coated steel wires. In some larger conductor designs, the trapezoidal wires are encased in a layer of round 1350 H19 aluminum wires. A gap separates the steel core from the two layers of trapezoidal-shaped aluminum wires, which helps provide self-damping. The steel core wires are protected from corrosion by coatings made of aluminum-clad, galvanized, or a zinc-5% aluminum mischmetal alloy. Additionally, options for standard, high, extra-high, and ultra-high-strength steel are available. The manufacture of ACSR/SD conductors complies with the requirements of the latest version of ASTM B701.
Features and Benefits
The ACSR/SD (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced/Self-Damping) design features a steel core surrounded by two layers of trapezoidal aluminum wires, with a gap intentionally created to provide self-damping. This helps control Aeolian vibrations, eliminating the need for additional vibration dampers.
