Product description

ACSR/SD conductors are made with two layers of trapezoidal-shaped aluminum wires (1350-H19). These wires are concentrically stranded around a round steel core, and the wires are also coated. In larger conductor constructions, the trapezoidal wires are encircled by a layer of round 1350-H19 aluminum wires. A gap separates the steel core from the two layers of trapezoidal aluminum wires, providing self-damping. The steel core wires are protected against corrosion with aluminum-clad, galvanized, or a zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal alloy coating. Additionally, various steel grades, including standard, high, extra, and ultra-high-strength options, are available. ACSR/SD conductors are manufactured in accordance with the requirements outlined in the latest issue of ASTM B701.

 

Features and Benefits

The ACSR/SD conductor features a steel core surrounded by two layers of trapezoidal-shaped aluminum wires. These layers are separated by a gap that provides self-damping characteristics to control Aeolian vibrations, eliminating the need for additional vibration dampers. The use of ACSR/SD offers several advantages, including shorter, more economical towers; increased reliability; lower overall line costs; reduced sag; decreased ice and wind loads; and the ability to permit longer spans.

 

Applications

ACSR/SD conductors are specifically designed for use in overhead transmission lines to effectively control Aeolian vibration.
