Prysmian Downhole Technology
Downhole technology solutions
Integrated solutions for the toughest downhole applications
Prysmian's Downhole Technology offers a wide range of downhole cables, protectors, control lines, flatpacks, services, and ancillaries to meet all your needs.
The product portfolio is backed by exceptional design expertise and global manufacturing capability. Prysmian Downhole Technology provides solutions for the most challenging downhole applications.
Prysmian Downhole Technology (PDT) is uniquely positioned to meet all your downhole needs.
Formed by the integration of two industry pioneers, Draka—who developed the world's first tubing-encapsulated cable (TEC) over 30 years ago—and Gulf Coast Downhole Technologies (GCDT)—who specialize in meeting the challenges of operators and oil field service companies—PDT has the products, design expertise, and manufacturing capabilities to meet applications ranging from conventional systems to the most demanding applications.
PDT's portfolio results from decades of innovation, starting with the development of the world's first TEC in 1987.
Today, PDT can fulfill your downhole cabling needs with a range of purpose-built designs manufactured to the highest standards.
Our portfolio includes:
- Downhole Cables: TEC (for instrumentation and power), TEF (for fiber optic), and hybrid cables (electro/optical)
- Protectors: clamping and cable protection solutions
- Control Lines: pressure tubes for harsh environment applications such as chemical injection or well monitoring
- Flatpacks: single and dual pass encapsulation featuring Prysmian Safety-Strip® technology
- Services and Ancillaries: flush and fill, fluid cleanliness, and protector product interface testing, customer inventory management
TEC (Instrumentation and Power Cables)
This product range consists of cables specifically designed to transmit data or provide power to various downhole instruments, sensors, and electrically operated equipment.
PDT's instrumentation and power cables are produced and tested to the highest quality standards to ensure they can withstand downhole operations' demands. These cables are available in tube diameters ranging from 1/8" to 5/8", with a variety of wall thicknesses, and can be manufactured using stainless steel or nickel alloy.
TEF (Fiber Optic Cables)
Our range of cables includes options for various applications such as distributed temperature sensing (DTS), pressure, flow, strain measurement, and acoustic sensing.
PDT's hydrogen-insensitive fiber optic cables are built to endure extreme temperatures (-150°C to +300°C) for use in the most challenging environments, including arctic or deep sub-sea applications.
We manufacture fiber optic cables tailored to meet specific application requirements. Our design team will collaborate with you to define key parameters, such as optical fiber type, filler gel, diameter, thickness, and tube material, to ensure that the cable design is optimized for the application and operating conditions.
Control Lines
This product range consists of pressure tubes specifically designed for challenging environments, such as those found in chemical injection or well monitoring applications, where strength, corrosion resistance, and reliability are critical.
PDT's control lines are produced and tested to meet or surpass ASTM requirements. They come in austenitic stainless steel, nickel-based alloy, or duplex stainless steel tubing with wall thicknesses ranging from 1/8" to 5/8".
Hybrid Cables
This range comprises cables that combine instrument, power, and fiber optic cables in a single package, eliminating the need for multiple cables or extra space in the wellhead.
The PDT team can recommend designs that meet an application's operating parameters and the required surface and downhole interfaces. Additionally, we provide a custom design service to address situations where a standard design does not fulfill an application's specific needs.
Flatpacks
This product line is created to make installation easier and reduce the amount of installation spooler units needed during well completion.
PDT's flatpacks come in various configurations, offering options for single-pass encapsulation and dual-pass encapsulation for extra protection. Individual components and tubes can be color-coded and custom-printed for quick identification. If more crush resistance is required, bumper bars and wire rope can be specified.
Safety-Strip®
The standard PDT flatpack design utilizes the patented Safety-Strip® encapsulation. This encapsulation includes a continuous tear cord, allowing for the safe and quick removal of the outer jacket without risking damage to the underlying tube. It greatly enhances operator safety by eliminating the need for open blades or similar mechanical devices to strip the cable.
Protectors
PDT’s protector portfolio includes clamping and cable protection solutions to protect cables from lateral, axial and rotational loading in downhole applications.
Our cross-coupling and specialty protector designs incorporate enhanced features including interlocking strap and body, central pillars, captivated fasteners that eliminate risks from loose parts, pre-engaged fasteners, high tensile fixtures and corrosion protection.
In addition to our standard range, PDT designs application-specific solutions for demanding situations, such as open-hole applications, ESP applications, perforating gun orientation, tight clearances, thermal isolation, low-coefficient of friction requirements, dual strings, and splice and gauge protection.
