PanGen Recognized for Innovation in Annual Awards

Panduit and General Cable – one of three distinct commercial brands (Prysmian, Draka and General Cable) of the Prysmian Group – walked away with three awards yesterday in the annual Cabling Installation & Maintenance Cabling Innovators Awards. The Panduit-General Cable partnership (PanGen®) provided the structured cabling infrastructure for a connected lighting project at The Waldinger Corporation in Iowa, which was recognized by judges as a Platinum honoree – the highest award given.

The PanGen partnership also received two Gold awards:

• Next Generation Category 6A Copper Cable – a new offering from both Panduit and General Cable, which boasts an outside diameter of 0.250 inch, making it the world’s smallest Category 6A cable
• Children’s Health – Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Plano, Texas; a new hospital project which features a wealth of technology-enhanced care, which is enabled by a PanGen structured cabling solution

The Platinum-winning Waldinger Corporation project features LED lighting powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE), an application that delivers both data and power via a single twisted-pair cable. The project resulted in improved lighting performance, as well as control and intelligence. The project includes the GENISYS® PoE Lighting System from Innovative Lighting and is installed on a PanGen structured cabling platform. 

The Plano, Texas, pediatric hospital project also features a PanGen structured cabling solution, which enables a wide variety of technology-enhanced applications to treat pediatric athletes.

Panduit and General Cable introduced the next generation of Category 6A copper cabling earlier this year. The award-winning solution delivers the smallest cable diameter (0.250”) in a Category 6A cable, which leads to improved pathway capacity and easier installation. Two versions of the cable are available. One has a solid barrier tape and the second has a barrier tape that is cut into segments of varying length, providing the added benefit of delivering the best EMI immunity in an unshielded cable.

The judging panel consisted of cabling and communications system specifiers, designers, integrators and managers with vast professional experience. Submittals were judged based on the following criteria:
