48-432f FusionLink™ with FlexRibbon® Technology Cable
FusionLink™ with FlexRibbon® Technology features an ultra-compact design for outside plant cables, accommodating between 48 and 432 bend-insensitive fibers. FlexRibbon technology allows the fiber ribbons to be rolled and packed together within a small-diameter subunit. This design allows for a high packing density and maintains the advantages of mass fusion splicing, with the fiber coatings measuring 250 μm.

FAQs
What is a ribbon fiber optic cable?
A ribbon fiber optic cable is a design in which fibers within the cable are grouped and encapsulated in an adhesive matrix, usually 12 per group. The matrix can be either a flat, rigid array (traditional) or an intermittently bonded array (FlexRibbon®). The cable containing groups of ribbons could be a single central tube or multiple tubes with ribbons. The primary advantage of ribbon cables is the ability to mass-fusion splice fibers, which provides time and cost savings. Ribbons also allow for high-density cables, which in some fiber counts, only ribbon designs may be selected (e.g., 3456 and 6912).
What is FlexRibbon® technology?
FlexRibbon® technology is a patented design in which fibers are grouped into ribbons using a proprietary, intermittent-bonding method. This allows fibers to be accessed one at a time, or they may still be mass-fusion spliced using existing splicing techniques and equipment. FlexRibbon® also offers better handling in splice trays, allowing fibers to bend easily in any direction. This improvement translates into smaller splice trays and enclosures, ultimately saving costs on the project. Despite the design patent, FlexRibbon® is fully compatible with mass-fusion splicing with other ribbonized fibers on the market. FlexRibbon® technology is available for 250µm and 200µm coated fibers, allowing for next-generation cable densities.
What makes FlexRibbon® technology different from traditional ribbon designs?
Unlike traditional flat ribbons, FlexRibbon® designs can flex and roll, offering easier handling, smaller cable diameters, and improved packing density. That packing density results in higher fiber counts in cables and more fibers that can fit into a given splice closure. Single fibers can be easily accessed from the ribbons without special tools, making FlexRibbon® a great design for access networks serving a large number of endpoints.
Where is this cable typically used?
FusionLink™ cables, in both traditional flat ribbon and FlexRibbon® configurations, are used in broadband, long-haul, metro, FTTH, FTTA, and DCI networks where compact, high-fiber-count designs are required.
