Bare Soft Copper Grounding Conductor (Canada)
Bare soft copper grounding conductors can be either solid or concentric-lay-stranded. They consist of one or more layers of wire that are helically wrapped around a straight, round central wire. Each layer contains six more wires than the layer beneath it. Using Class B stranding provides greater flexibility. The outer layer is wound in a left-hand lay, and in multilayer constructions, the direction of lay for each successive layer is reversed. Copper ground wires are made from annealed soft copper and comply with the latest versions of ASTM specifications B3 and B8.
Features and Benefits
Solid or stranded bare soft copper grounding conductors are suitable for direct burial, are inherently resistant to corrosion, and are easy to terminate and join at splices and joints.
Applications
Solid and stranded bare soft copper grounding conductors serve as neutrals, circuit grounding conductors, and for grounding systems for machinery and equipment. Soft copper can also be used for transformer drop leads or other non-tension hook-up jumpers.
