Dead Soft Annealed Copper Clad Steel Grounding Conductor (Canada)
Dead Soft Annealed (DSA) Copper Clad Steel (CCS) conductors are designed with concentric lay stranding. The CCS strands are made with a 40% conductivity grade, previously referred to as Grade 40A. These wires have a low-carbon steel core that provides greater flexibility for easier handling during installation. The outer layer is laid in a left-hand direction, while the direction of lay for each successive layer is reversed. DSA CCS grounding conductors are manufactured in accordance with ASTM B910, B258, and B228, as applicable.
Features and Benefits
Stranded DSA Copper Clad Steel conductors are ideal for use in buried ground grid systems where a more economical alternative to copper conductors is preferred. In utility applications, Copper Clad Steel is commonly utilized for substation and generation plant ground grids, grounding of metal fences, and in building and structure lightning protection systems. Additionally, Copper Clad Steel is difficult to cut and, unlike copper conductors, has virtually no scrap value, thereby mitigating the risk of theft or vandalism of the grounding wire.
Applications
DSA Copper Clad Steel stranded conductors can replace copper conductors in various grounding applications and systems. When selecting the size and construction of the Copper Clad Steel conductor, it is generally matched by approximating its diameter to that of a copper conductor. However, please be aware that the ampacity rating and the DC and AC resistance of the Copper Clad Steel wire conductor do not equate to those of copper conductors.
