PowrServ® AR Quadruplex Underground Distribution Cable (US)
Product Construction
Quadruplex PowrServ® abuse-resistant (AR) cables consist of three-phase conductors and one neutral conductor, all insulated with extruded lead-free composite materials: Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) and High-Density Cross-linked Polyethylene (HDXLPE). These cables are twisted together to form a quadruplex assembly. The XLPE-insulated cables are manufactured and tested in accordance with ANSI/ICEA S-81-570 and UL 854, and are listed as a Type USE-2 cable.
Conductors: The conductors are made of Class B or Super Extended Stranded (SIW) compressed 1350-H19 aluminum.
Composite Insulation: The extruded lead-free cross-linked polyethylene insulation meets the requirements of ANSI/ICEA S-81-570. The extruded lead-free, high-density, cross-linked polyethylene meets ASTM D1248 Type III. The three-phase conductors are colored black, while the neutral conductor is also black, identifiable by three extruded yellow stripes.
Phase Identification: Phase identification is indicated through white printed legend markings. “Phase A” is marked on one phase conductor, “Phase B” on another, and “Phase C” on the third phase conductor. The neutral conductor features a white printed legend and three extruded yellow stripes for easy identification.
Features and Benefits
The dual-extruded composite insulation system provides a high level of protection against damage to the insulation caused by unclean backfill material and by cuts and abrasions that may occur during installation. For applications compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC), the maximum conductor operating temperature is 90°C in both wet and dry locations. This cable is also suitable for non-code-compliant installations, maintaining the same maximum conductor temperature of 90°C in wet or dry environments.
Applications
The PowrServ AR XLPE/HDXLPE underground distribution cable is designed for use in systems operating at 600 volts or less.
