BOSTFLEX™ Pendant and Reel Control Cable
BOSTFLEX™ Pendant and Reel Control Cable is specifically designed for continuous flexing applications where factors such as flame, abrasion, chemicals, moisture, impact, tearing, and extreme temperatures are important considerations.
Typical uses for this cable include portable controls, festoon systems, power tracks, cable tenders, cranes and hoists, pendant push-button stations, cable reels, retractable reels, automatic welders, transfer vehicles, and other demanding flexing applications. BOSTFLEX cables are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. For severe flexing applications in temperatures below 10°C, please specify BIW™ ALL-TEMP INDUSTRITE® cable.
Construction Options
BOSTFLEX™ cables are designed and manufactured in a variety of alternative constructions for specific applications.
Options include:
- Shielded pairs
- Fiber optic
- Overall shields
- Composite conductors
Note: The use of basket-weave grips, a minimum of 12 inches in length, is recommended to prolong cable life in all working applications.
Design Parameters
Conductors: The conductors feature extra-flexible stranding (Class K) made from soft-drawn, tinned copper. This is in accordance with ASTM B-33, ASTM B-172, and UL-62 standards, ensuring high flexibility and extended flex life. This design also minimizes copper fatigue and conductor breakage while promoting easy solderability and corrosion resistance.
Separator: A paper separator is used to facilitate insulation stripping.
Insulation: The insulation is a color-coded thermoset material rated for 90°C, with a nylon jacket, and complies with UL-62 and ANSI/NEMA WC70 ICEA S-95-658 standards. This ensures easy conductor identification, excellent physical and electrical properties, and suitability for demanding flexing applications.
Cabling: The conductors are cabled together (up to two layers) using non-wicking, non-hygroscopic fillers around a fibrous strength member. An overall binder made of rubberized fabric tape and reinforced serve enhances mechanical strength and impact resistance, ensuring outstanding performance in severe flexing conditions.
Jacket: The jacket is bright yellow and crafted from a flame-, oil-, and sunlight-resistant thermoset material, meeting UL-62 and ANSI/NEMA WC70 ICEA S-95-658 standards. This provides excellent visibility for safety and suitability for both indoor and outdoor use, particularly in environments where oil, chemicals, and extreme temperatures are factors.
