BOSTREEL™ Power Reeling Cable
BOSTREEL™ ALL-TEMP Portable Power Reeling Cable is designed for medium-voltage reeling applications in various environments, including container-handling cranes, log-handling cranes, stacker-reclaimers, shiploaders, and unloaders. This cable is ideal for material-handling tasks where factors such as flames, abrasion, chemicals, moisture, impact, tearing, and extreme temperatures are a concern. Engineered to withstand the unique tension and torsional stresses encountered during regular use on high-mounted cable reels and at high travel speeds, these power reeling cables ensure safe operation.
Construction Options
BOSTREEL cables are designed and manufactured in a variety of alternative constructions for specific applications.
Options include:
- Composite constructions incorporating optical fiber (multimode or single mode) for voice, data and video transmission
- Alternative jacketing materials formulated to provide superior service life in the world’s harshest environments
Design Parameters
Conductors/Ground/Ground Check: The conductors consist of extra flexible rope stranding (Class K), made from soft-drawn uncoated copper. This material complies with ASTM B3, ASTM B172, and UL 1072 standards, ensuring high flexibility, extended flex-life, and reduced risk of copper fatigue or conductor breakage.
Insulation: The insulation is made of thermoset EPR and meets or exceeds the standards set by ANSI/NEMA WC58, ICEA S-75-381, and UL 1072. This insulation offers excellent physical and electrical properties and is suitable for extreme flexing applications.
Shielding: A conductor shield, insulation, and insulation shield are applied using a triple extrusion process. Additionally, a braided copper shield enhances flexibility and provides corona-free shielding, improving conductivity and ensuring personnel safety.
Cabling: The conductors are cabled without fillers or separators. This design allows the pressure-extruded jacket to fill any interstices, preventing conductor displacement during flexing and high-tension applications.
Jacket: The jacket is made from a black, low-temperature, co-extruded, reinforced, extra heavy-duty thermoset material. It is flame-, oil-, and sunlight-resistant, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use in severe flexing applications where exposure to oil, chemicals, and extreme temperatures is a concern.
