UN Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 agenda for sustainable development
What are the SDGs?
The SDGs were adopted in 2015 by all 193 UN member states in order to enhance sustainable development in the economic, social and environmental sectors. They are a new, universal set of 17 goals, 169 targets and several indicators that member states will use to frame their agendas, political policies and investments over the next 15 years. SDGs define global sustainable development priorities and aspirations for 2030 and seek to mobilise global efforts around a common set of goals and targets.
How do they affect businesses?
The Group took important steps over the course of 2016 to further integrate sustainability matters into our business activities. We therefore selected five SDGs to which we can contribute most, and translated them into a Sustainability Plan consisting of priorities, objectives and actions that are consistent with our business strategy and corporate values. Building on this, the Group also devised a ‘scorecard’ that identifies 16 sustainability targets to be met by 2020, each measured by quantitative KPIs that will be monitored closely so progress can be reported on a regular basis.
