WideCap Multimode Fiber
WideCap Multimode Fiber
A multimode system that utilizes OM4 and VCSEL technology, offering a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution for data center networks using parallel multimode fibers.
Innovative Fiber for Multi-Wavelength Systems
The industry is making significant strides to enhance the capacity of multimode fibers. One effective approach is the development of wideband multimode fibers (MMFs) capable of Short Wavelength Division Multiplexing (SWDM) transmission, utilizing high-speed VCSELs in the 850 nm to 953 nm range.
To meet the rapidly growing demand for data in data centers, Prysmian's WideCap fiber has been upgraded to deliver OM4 performance within the 850-950 nm wavelength range while remaining compatible with existing laser-optimized multimode fibers. This compatibility enables data center operators to fully utilize new WDM transceivers using duplex LC connectivity.
With this capacity enhancement, WideCap can support 4x25 Gbps channels, enabling 100 Gbps transmission and paving the way for future 400 Gbps systems. The WideCap MMF, when combined with pulse-amplitude modulation in the PAM4 signal format and SWDM, allows for 200 Gbps transmission over a single multimode fiber.
Benefits of WideCap
WideCap is the ideal solution for saving space and enhancing network performance and reliability in smaller, high-density fiber management systems found in data centers, computer rooms, and Local Access Networks (LANs) where space is at a premium.
In addition, WideCap enables extended reach, increased fiber efficiency, and lower power consumption when combined with 4x25 Gbps WDM VCSEL transceivers. It is the first multimode fiber optimized for multi-wavelength systems, extending the traditional operating window of standard OM4 fibers to 950 nm and adding three channels to the usual OM4 850 nm.
WideCap complies with the most stringent ISO, TIA, EIA, and IEC standards and is designed with future industry requirements in mind.
