Medium Voltage Power Distribution Cables
Inside Medium Voltage
DOUBLESEAL®
Toggle DetailsPrysmian offers medium-voltage secondary distribution cables featuring the DOUBLESEAL® water limiting system that provides double moisture protection (i.e., within the conductor and underneath the outer cable jacket). Stranded conductors are water-blocked with STRANDSEAL® conductor filling compound, while water-blocking agents are applied over the insulation shield and around the neutral wires to resist longitudinal water penetration. DOUBLESEAL designs are manufactured with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.
SUPERDRI®
Toggle DetailsPrysmian offers medium-voltage secondary distribution cables featuring the SUPERDRI® water-limiting system—the ultimate moisture protection system. Stranded conductors are water-blocked with STRANDSEAL® conductor-filling compound. To resist longitudinal water penetration under the jacket, water-swellable tape is applied longitudinally over the concentric neutrals combined with an application of water-swellable agents beneath the outer cable jacket. SUPERDRI designs are manufactured with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.
LC SHIELD®
Toggle DetailsLC SHIELD® is a transversely corrugated copper tape that is longitudinally applied over the insulation shield with an overlap. A bridging tape is applied at the overlap. This construction is effective in impeding moisture ingress into the insulation system and accommodates the expansion and contraction of the cable during thermal cycling. LC SHIELD designs are manufactured with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.
TRIPLESEAL®
Toggle DetailsPrysmian developed the TRIPLESEAL® water-limiting system as an enhancement to its LC SHIELD® design of medium-voltage secondary distribution cables. Included in this design is a sealed overlap of longitudinally folded, transversely corrugated copper tape shield with water-blocking layers, both under and over the shield. Combined with stranded conductors that are water-blocked with STRANDSEAL® conductor-filling compound, this design provides triple moisture protection. LC SHIELD with TRIPLESEAL designs are manufactured with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.
CL™ Advantage
Toggle DetailsCL™ Advantage is the next evolutionary step in medium-voltage technology incorporating compact conductor stranding with flat-strap copper concentric neutrals and a cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) thermoset jacket. With this combination of features, CL Advantage provides superior protection in a compact, light-weight cable that delivers a lower-total-cost solution with numerous advantages.
PowrPak® PILC Replacement
Toggle DetailsPrysmian’s PowrPak® PILC replacement cables are intended for use in dry or wet locations for today's aging and expanding urban underground distribution systems of utilities where paper insulated lead covered (PILC) cable has been used previously. It is specifically designed to be used in urban underground network systems where existing duct space is limited.
EPR
Toggle DetailsPrysmian offers a variety of underground distribution and shielded power cables with ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) insulation. The physical and thermal characteristics of EPR result in a high resistance to deformation. EPR insulation is typically specified for heavily loaded circuits such as feeders and network systems.
TRXLPE
Toggle DetailsPrysmian offers a variety of underground distribution and shielded power cables with lead-free tree-retardant cross-linked polyethylene (TRXLPE) insulation. TRXLPE insulation is an economical option for the high-volume usage in underground distribution systems.
EAM
Toggle DetailsPrysmian offers EAM insulation as an option in the construction of its EmPowr® Fill distribution and shielded power cables. The physical and thermal characteristics of EAM result in a high resistance to deformation. EAM insulation is typically specified for heavily loaded circuits such as feeders and network systems.
Cable in Duct
Toggle DetailsPrysmian’s EmPowr® Combined Duct & Cable offers an economical alternative to pulling cable in previously installed short lengths of duct joined with sleeve couplings. The inherent construction advantages and versatility of the EmPowr design are ideally suited for underground primary distribution systems up to 46 kV.
