Inside Medium Voltage

Prysmian offers medium-voltage secondary distribution cables that feature the DOUBLESEAL® water limiting system, which provides exceptional moisture protection. This unique system ensures that the stranded conductors are effectively water-blocked using STRANDSEAL® conductor filling compound. Additionally, water-blocking agents are applied over the insulation shield and around the neutral wires to prevent longitudinal water penetration. The DOUBLESEAL® designs are constructed with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation, ensuring superior protection and reliability.

Prysmian provides medium-voltage secondary distribution cables that feature the SUPERDRI® water-limiting system—an advanced moisture protection solution. These adaptable cables are designed with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation, making them suitable for a variety of applications. The stranded conductors are protected from water infiltration using STRANDSEAL® conductor-filling compound. To prevent longitudinal water penetration beneath the jacket, a water-swellable tape is applied along the concentric neutrals, along with a layer of water-swellable agents beneath the outer cable jacket.

LC SHIELD® is a copper tape that is corrugated transversely and applied longitudinally over the insulation shield with an overlapping section. A bridging tape is used to secure the overlap. This carefully designed construction effectively prevents moisture from entering the insulation system and allows for the expansion and contraction of the cable during thermal cycling. LC SHIELD® designs are available with either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.

Prysmian has developed the TRIPLESEAL® water-limiting system to enhance its LC SHIELD® design for medium-voltage secondary distribution cables. This design features a sealed overlap of longitudinally folded and transversely corrugated copper tape shield, which is reinforced with water-blocking layers above and below the shield. Additionally, the system is equipped with stranded conductors that are filled with STRANDSEAL® conductor-filling compound, providing extra moisture protection. LC SHIELD® cables with TRIPLESEAL® designs are manufactured using either TRXLPE or EPR insulation.

Prysmian provides a range of underground distribution and shielded power cables that feature ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) insulation. The physical and thermal properties of EPR give it a high resistance to deformation. As a result, EPR insulation is commonly used for heavily loaded circuits, such as feeders and network systems.

Prysmian provides EAM insulation as an option for its EmPowr® Fill distribution and shielded power cables. The physical and thermal properties of EAM contribute to its high resistance to deformation. This type of insulation is commonly used for heavily loaded circuits, such as feeders and network systems.
