CCW® Armored Power, 3/C VFD SPEC 9615
For AC motors controlled by pulse-width-modulated inverters in Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) applications, the preferred wiring method is to use 3-conductor, CCW armored cables with three symmetrical grounding wires. These CCW armored cables provide a cost-effective, durable, and reliable alternative to labor-intensive cable-in-conduit wiring methods.
These cables are suitable for use in hazardous locations classified as Class I, II, and III, Divisions 1 and 2; and Class I, Zones 1 and 2, in accordance with NEC Articles 501, 502, and 503. They can be utilized as service, feeder, and branch circuits for power, lighting, control, and signal circuits, following NEC Articles 330 and 725.
CCW armored cables can be installed in a variety of settings, both indoors and outdoors, be it in wet or dry locations, directly buried, embedded in concrete, within a raceway, as aerial cables on a messenger wire, in cable trays, or as exposed runs secured to supports, according to NEC Article 330. These cables are also recognized for use on fixed or floating offshore petroleum facilities, as recommended by the American Petroleum Institute.
