In this episode of The Reel Advantage, Anna Wright, VP of Marketing and Communications, and Jon Compher, National Account Manager – Industrial & Construction, sat down with Jeff Betts, of Cascade Western Reps to discuss the evolution of data centers in North America and how the industry is adapting to meet rapidly increasing demand.

Founded in 1976, Cascade Western Reps grew throughout the Pacific Northwest through the work and dedication of Bett's family. For over 25 years, Cascade Western Reps has maintained a successful partnership with Encore Wire and, now, Prysmian as their electrical manufacturing representative agency. Cascade Western Reps has expanded and has thrived alongside the uptick in data centers throughout North America.

The Pacific Northwest: A Data Center Pioneer

Long before data centers became a nationwide focus, the Pacific Northwest emerged as an ideal location for large-scale development, namely data centers. Affordable power, cooler climates, available land, and favorable tax incentives attracted some of the industry's earliest projects.

Cascade Western Reps and Encore Wire were involved from the beginning, supporting one of the region's first major data center projects in 2008. As larger tech companies expand their footprints across the region, data center construction accelerated and became a driving force in the local economy.

What started as a niche market has evolved into one of the fastest-growing segments in the electrical industry, creating significant opportunities for manufacturers, distributors, and contractors alike.

Meeting the Need for Speed and Scale

Data center projects today look very different from what they did a decade ago. Construction timelines have shortened dramatically, while project size and complexity continue to scale.

As demand for cloud computing, mobile connectivity, data storage, and more increases, customers expect products to be delivered faster than ever before. Delays can directly impact project schedules and revenue generation, making supply chain reliability critical.

Throughout the discussion, Betts emphasized that execution remains one of the most important differentiators in the marketplace. Contractors need confidence that products will arrive on time and perform as expected, regardless of project size or complexity.

A Complete Cable Solution for Growing Infrastructure Needs

As data center requirements expand, contractors increasingly prefer suppliers that can provide a broad range of cable solutions from a single source.

Adding Prysmian's portfolio creates new opportunities for customers by combining Encore's expertise in building wire with Prysmian's capabilities in medium voltage, power grid, digital solutions, and optical fiber solutions.

This expanded offering helps simplify procurement while supporting the growing electrical demands of modern data centers. It also positions Encore Wire, Prysmian to support projects across the entire power and connectivity ecosystem, from utility infrastructure to the final building installation.

As electrical contractors look for streamlined solutions and trusted partners, having access to a complete wire and cable portfolio has become increasingly valuable.

Preparing for What's Next

While data centers continue to drive demand, Betts noted that the broader electrical industry is also preparing for challenges tied to power generation, grid modernization, electrification, and material availability.

The growth of data centers alone will require significant investments across the supply chain. Manufacturers, distributors, and contractors must be ready to scale operations for long-term infrastructure needs.

Prysmian's continued investment in North American manufacturing is designed to help meet that demand, ensuring customers have access to the products and support required for future growth.

Demand for connectivity and power shows no signs of slowing, and strong partnerships will be essential to meet the industry in its next chapter.
