Prysmian Invests $42K in Palmetto Innovation and Technology Center, Home to Due West Robotics

Prysmian, a global leader in energy transition and digital transformation, recently announced an investment in the Palmetto Innovation and Technology Center, which will be home to Due West Robotics. The company is committed to sponsoring a classroom in the new 16,500-square-foot facility, the first in South Carolina dedicated entirely to robotics and STEM education.

Prysmian donated $11,750 worth of building wire and contributed an additional $30,250 to name Classroom #106 at the Palmetto Innovation and Technology Center.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Due West Robotics on the Palmetto Innovation and Technology Center, reinforcing Prysmian’s dedication to being an active and engaged member of the local communities in Due West and Abbeville,” said David Horton, Plant Manager for Prysmian’s Abbeville facility. “This initiative allows us to support Due West Robotics students and empower aspiring innovators as they explore the exciting fields of robotics and STEM education.”

The Palmetto Innovation and Technology Center will house the Due West Robotics program, attracting students from the nearby communities of Abbeville, Anderson, and Greenwood counties. It will also serve as a venue for other STEM-related events and activities.

The building is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.

Prysmian is dedicated to empowering the communities where the company operates, including partnering with local organizations help develop training programs and actively encouraging students of all ages to explore careers in STEM. To support the next generation of STEM leaders, Prysmian is committed to expanding internship and co-op programs in STEM and manufacturing across its 39 locations within North America.

Internally, Prysmian offers $3,000 scholarships to employees’ dependents pursuing post-secondary degrees in STEM and manufacturing fields. The company also offers the STEM IT program, a five-year program designed for professionals interested in developing careers in STEM roles. Additionally, Prysmian’s WiSTEM (Women in STEM) employee resource group continues to champion gender equity in technical roles while building a nationwide support system for women in STEM careers within Prysmian.
