AIRGUARD® Armored Cable Solution for Harsh Environments

OVERVIEW

A versatile solution

Prysmian's AIRGUARD® cable systems are designed for versatility, making them suitable for a wide range of applications across various industries. Whether used in offshore oil and gas drilling or mining sector, these cable solutions provide 3-5x more mechanical protection than traditional metal-armored cables, even in challenging environments.

The innovative polymeric-armored cable technology of AIRGUARD represents a significant advancement, eliminating the need for outdated options such as interlocked, continuously corrugated, and welded cables (CCW). Available in high-voltage, medium-voltage, low-voltage, instrumentation, and fiber-optic cable constructions, these systems offer a superior alternative, freeing users from the hassle of obsolete technology.

When combined with Prysmian's extensive range of terminations, splices, cable glands, and tools, AIRGUARD cable creates a comprehensive turnkey system. This all-in-one solution positions Prysmian as the ideal choice for meeting the diverse demands of today’s industries, offering a complete range of systems in high-voltage, medium-voltage, low-voltage, instrumentation, and fiber-optic cable constructions.

AIRGUARD low-voltage power cables are specifically designed for applications and environments commonly found in heavy industries, variable frequency drive (VFD) applications, and offshore markets. The rugged polymeric AIR BAG™ armor offers exceptional durability, and its chemical barrier protection package makes it an ideal choice for demanding and harsh environmental conditions. This durability, which is a testament to its quality, ensures that you can rely on AIRGUARD even in the most challenging situations. It is rated for Class I, Division I locations, further enhancing its reliability.

Furthermore, low-voltage AIRGUARD has been developed to reduce field installation costs while improving overall cable performance compared to Type MC and MC-HL alternatives. Its proven flexibility and ease of Stripability provide confidence, as it has consistently demonstrated the ability to save up to 18% on installation costs compared to MC-HL cables.

AIRGUARD cables present a viable alternative to continuously corrugated and welded aluminum armored cables (CCW). They offer 5x better impact performance, three times the maximum sidewall bearing pressure (the highest pressure a sidewall can endure without deforming), and a crush strength of 2500 psi MV. These features ensure security and confidence in your cable selection.

Additionally, AIRGUARD cables can be produced in lengths more than twice that of CCW cables and can be installed without splices, making them a versatile solution. Their excellent chemical resistance allows for installation in direct burial applications, providing greater flexibility in project planning. This can result in saving time and money compared to traditional tray, conduit, and duct system installations.
