Cables for Underground and Surface Mining

Type W cables, renowned for their durability, are non-shielded, 2 kV flexible, portable power cables with full-size ground conductors (in constructions above 2C) for industrial and mining applications. These cables, available in flat and round constructions, are designed to resist crushing and minimize kinking, ensuring their reliability in applications where cables will see high degrees of flexing and twisting. The round constructions, in particular, are ideal for use with mobile mining equipment, as they are easy to handle, move, and relocate. They are available with tinned copper conductors for enhanced flex life and increased resistance to wire breakage for applications requiring repetitive movement. They also offer a cost-effective solution with bare copper ground conductors for applications where the cable is not subjected to repetitive movement.

Type G and G-GC cables are non-shielded, 2 kV flexible portable power cables with ground wires for each conductor. In addition, Type G-GC cables include a “ground check” wire that provides fail-safe ground monitoring for maximum safety. Type G and G-GC cables come in flat constructions that resist crushing and minimize kinking for applications where cables will see high degrees of flexing and twisting. They also come in round constructions ideal for use with mobile mining equipment as they are easy to handle, move, and relocate. They are available with tinned copper conductors for enhanced flex life and increased resistance to wire breakage for applications requiring repetitive movement. Alternatively, they are available with bare copper conductors for a cost-effective solution in applications where the cable is not subjected to repetitive movement.

The SHD-GC cables are shielded, heavy-duty portable power cables designed for use as trailing cables on AC mining equipment. They are offered in voltages ranging from 2 kV up to 35 kV. These cables are equipped with a ground-check conductor for fail-safe monitoring and are safe for use in environments where induced voltages in the grounding system will not produce a hazard. Additionally, they can be used for low- and medium-voltage AC circuits where shielding is desired or required. The SHD-GC cables feature a reinforced, two-layer, extra-heavy-duty, lead-cured Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket and come with Tinned Copper/Textile Composite Braid Shielding for maximum shield flex life. They are available with tinned copper conductors for enhanced flex life and increased resistance to wire breakage in applications requiring repetitive movement, as well as bare copper conductors for cost-effective solutions in applications where the cable is not subjected to repetitive movement.

Type MP-GC cables are shielded power cables offered in voltages of 5 kV up to 35 kV. These round mining-grade power feeder cables are durable and easy to handle, making the installation process relatively straightforward. The heavy-duty single-layer jacket provides mechanical protection and increased resistance to abrasion, cutting, tear, and torsion, ensuring their reliability in underground, aerial, duct, or direct burial applications.

Tunneling Cables

Type SHD-GC cables are shielded, heavy-duty portable power cables offered in voltages of 2 kV up to 25 kV. They are designed for use as trailing cables on AC mining equipment where a ground-check conductor is required for fail-safe monitoring. These cables are not only versatile but also durable, ensuring a long-lasting solution for your power needs. Our SHD-GC cables feature a reinforced, two-layer, extra-heavy-duty, lead-cured Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket. They come with Tinned Copper/Textile Composite Braid Shielding for maximum shield flex life. SHD-GC cables are available with tinned copper conductors for enhanced flex life and increased resistance to wire breakage for applications requiring repetitive movement, as well as bare copper conductors for a cost-effective solution in applications where the cable is not subjected to repetitive movement.

Type MP-GC cables are shielded power cables offered in voltages of 5 kV up to 35 kV intended for relatively stationary installation in underground, aerial, duct, or direct burial applications. These round mining-grade power feeder cables are easy to handle. The heavy-duty single-layer jacket provides mechanical protection and increased resistance to abrasion, cutting, tear, and torsion.

When faced with aggressive environments and high-mechanical stresses, cable manufacturers have traditionally protected their cables with a lead sheath and metal armor that increase the weight of the cable and reduce the installation flexibility.

Prysmian’s Mining and Tunneling cables, known for their reliability, offer significant benefits to a wide variety of specialized mining professionals, such as OEMs, specifiers, contractors, installers, mining companies, and more. The product range also incorporates cables for use in all types of infrastructure within the mining industry.
